  Day 7: Don’t Grow Weary

Weariness: extreme tiredness; fatigue: reluctance to see or experience any more of something.

Have you ever woken up and immediately counted down the hours until bedtime again? Nope, just me? Well, let me explain myself. I may physically feel tired but the right word is “weary,” which means EXTREME fatigue, which causes reluctance. The need to do “all the things” as women, oh and you have to look good doing it, oh wait, and don’t forget to sign up to volunteer for EVERYTHING. Please make sure to work out and eat a salad, and one last thing, please make sure your kids have groceries and clean underwear EVERYDAY! Even typing that exhausted me!!

When there is so much going on, it’s easy to grow weary. Usually when my weariness settles, my heart unsettles and I don’t feel good enough for anyone. I also need some counseling on how to say “no,” because I am the queen of “squeezing” everything in even when I am going crazy. I also love to “start” MANY things but never actually finish anything. Can you relate?

In 2017 I was going through a season where I felt weary about everything, even the parts of my life that were blessed. The laundry even overwhelmed me. I had a conference to attend and I almost backed out last minute because it was just another “thing.” As I prayed, I felt the Lord nudge me to go. When I walked in, they had us put away our phones, grab a yoga mat, our Bibles, and journal. The worship was amazing, but the best part of this whole conference was the opportunity to experience Jesus. It was just Jesus, me, and incredible men and women of God filling my cup. I was on my knees praying and asking God to help me not feel so weary and worn out, and I heard these 2 words: “Stop striving.” It was plain as day! The definition of striving is, “make great efforts to achieve or obtain something.” My heart started beating fast because in that moment I realized I was striving over everything (my job, my marriage, my ministry, my parenting). I was striving so hard for everything to succeed and to be perfect that I strived myself right into weariness.

I let go that day. I opened up my arms and gave everything to my Heavenly Father. It was never supposed to be mine to carry. I had the weight of perfection, keeping up with social media, and the need to succeed pressing down on my heart. I crumbled into the arms of Jesus, and my life has never been the same since. Do you feel weary today? He has a purpose, and that purpose was never meant to be perfection wrapped up in a pretty bow. He is with you, with His arms wide open, ready to take the burdens and weight that was never meant for you. You are so loved!

Daily Prayer:

Heavenly Daddy,

I feel weary and I need You today! I need You to help me stop striving and just start looking to YOU! I know that with You, You love me in spite of me, and You are there waiting to carry the weight that was never meant for me. I can truly be me with You, Father God. Please renew my mind and give me strength to face my day. Help me be still in Your presence and experience all of the LOVE and GRACE You have for me. I am imperfect and beautiful in your eyes! In Jesus’ name.

Love,
Your daughter

Don't forget your crown today!
