What Are You Waiting For?Chikamu
Why Waiting Is The Way
God’s word is clear: waiting is the way. In this lesson we’ll dive even deeper into God’s word to see exactly what God is trying to accomplish in your life in the waiting.
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Romans 5:3-5
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Sooner or later in life, we all have to wait. But why? Why does God allow His children to wait? Is there a purpose in the waiting? This lesson is about the reasons why God allows us to wait. The more we understand that it is God’s goodness that leads us to seasons of waiting and eventually through them, the more we will gain confidence to rest in God’s love as we wait for Him to move in our lives.
The first reason God allows us to wait is to reveal who we really are. It is always when the pressure of life increases that the truth of who we are overflows. And nothing will reveal the real you like a season in the waiting. It shows what’s in your heart. I should know all about that. As an ER doctor I come face to face with people who have been waiting forever for me and I can usually tell within seconds what’s in the heart of the person waiting. Sometimes it’s anger. Other times it’s festering bitterness. Occasionally it’s self-pity that seeps out of the heart of the person waiting, and maybe even jealousy of everyone else who is no longer waiting! If you’ve ever wondered how you’re doing character wise, just step into God’s waiting room for you and you’ll quickly see what you’re made of!
The second reason God allows us to spend time in the waiting is to slow or get rid of the self-sufficient you. We’re all born with an intense desire to control our own lives. It’s like we’re born with a PhD in doing it our way in our time. But when it comes to God’s economy, obedience and yielding is the currency that yields peace. The best way for God to transform you from a flesh-gratifying Christian to a Spirit-filled Christian is to have you face up the tension of unfulfilled desires in the wilderness of waiting.
Here’s the good news and the third reason God allows us to wait: waiting grows the best you. It’s through the waiting that God strips our independence and self-will and builds character and hope in our souls. It’s in the waiting that we learn to be still and know that He is God. It’s in the waiting that we finally wear down enough to say ‘Yes Lord, I’ll do what you want, I surrender to you."
If you haven’t reached a point of surrender with the Lord, take some time and do so now. Tell Him that you’re ready for a heart transformation. You’re ready for change.
