Wow, God! (An Advent Journey)Chikamu
WOW, GOD. YOU WANT ME TO KNOW YOU.
Experience
As I read the Bible and pray this holiday season, I notice the parts of me that need to change. I still have huge questions. How does God send a baby, as His son, to earth? And this baby is going to save me from my sin? It sounds a bit like a fairy tale, right? I know something about all this is real, though. I know because I’m starting to actually feel God in my life. That may be the part that sounds like a tale. The truth is, I’m experiencing something. (I’m learning things and using them in my life.) That longing for more, for a better life... it hasn’t gone away, but it has changed. Instead of thinking about how to make my life better, I think more often of God and the way He treats me. The more I read and pray, the more I want to read and pray because I’m feeling things I haven’t felt before. That’s the part that lets me know the fairy tale is true, because I’m living it. I may not perfectly understand it all. There’s a lot in my life I don’t perfectly understand, anyway. I am learning, though. I’m learning how to experience God, not just believe in Him.
Wow, God. You WANT me to know You.
Respond
God isn’t some being unable to be known, or a statue that can’t hear you. James 4:8 tells us, “Come near to God and He will come near to you.” God already came to you, as a baby... Jesus. God wants you to come to Him because He loves you and wants you to know Him.
God wants your life to be full of the love and acceptance that comes from knowing Him. Talking to God through prayer… learning about Him from the Bible… that’s how you spend time with God. That’s how you get to know HIm.
Pray
God, show yourself to me as I read the Bible and pray so I can know You. Amen.
