Guide Your Mind-Guard Your Heart-Grace Your Tongue

DAY 21 OF 21

God gave you a tongue so that you could declare His high praises in your everyday life. From Genesis to Revelation, it is clear that we were created for praise. We were created to lift our voices in song to the One who made us, who loves us, and who redeemed us. Praise is what delivers value and purpose to our lives. And praise has the power to miraculously change a common life into a rare and significant one.

God makes Himself at home when we choose to worship Him no matter what is happening in the circumstances of our lives. Perhaps the reason that you have felt far from God at times is that you have stopped praising Him. When you praise Him, He will show up! When you praise His name, He puts His feet up and relaxes; He sets up camp and stays where your worship is the most exuberant! Thus, as long as you are still breathing, your job description this side of heaven is to use your tongue as an instrument of praise.

You were given a tongue not only for praise, worship, and encouragement, but also to declare the Word and the will of God. God’s Word should have the final say, every time—for each situation and throughout the day. There should not be a single situation or event in your life that is not impacted by the jurisdiction of the Word that you have hidden in your heart. The Word of God will do an outside work on your circumstances and an inside work on you! When you use your mouth to declare the promises of God, it will change your perspective on your situation. Your mouth was made to declare God’s plans over your disappointments and human pain. Your tongue was created to affirm everything that God has ever said. It was not meant to be a puppet on a string, mimicking the faulty thoughts of your mind and the unguarded contents of your heart. Instead, it was designed to be a beautiful echo of the perfect mind and the pure heart of God.

Personal Application: Write down something specific with which you can praise or encourage each of your immediate family members or closest friends. Then, communicate it to them today or at the next opportune time.
