Finding An Anchor In Our AnxietyChikamu
Five Anchors
Martin Luther had this advice when he was in the lowest of lows
- Avoid being alone for long periods of time
- Seek out people or situations that bring you joy
- Sing and make music
- Deliberately dismiss heavy thoughts
- Make a list of all the things for which you can give praise
- Exercise patience with yourself
- Believe that depression can have a positive and fruitful side
This man took the weight of being excommunicated from the church at the time, and from that, The Five Solas came forth. These five anchor points, the Bible, Faith, Grace, Christ and His Glory are the anchors that we can grab on to in the time of need.
Are you giving your anxieties to Jesus or trying to stuff them down? Where is the place of unbelief in your life? You need to tell God, I have a place of unbelief and I need to believe that you are stronger in that area of my life. Where is the hope in your life? Are you just taking the negativity from the news intravenously? Or are you letting the IV of Jesus and his blood be your blood? Yes, the world is terrible. It is always going to be terrible. But Jesus Christ is Lord and will always be the Lord. He is always going to be above all the things that are happening. Praise the Lord, Jesus Christ has overcome the world.
The Welland River turns into the Niagara River, which turns into the Niagara Falls. Right when the two rivers meet, there is a post with a sign that says: Do you have an anchor? Do you know how to use it? I have given you an anchor, do you know how to use it? If so, when the rapids come, throw the anchor out and let it dig in. Take that anxiety to the Lord and say, “God, I’m trusting you with this. Show me how to believe deeper and increase my faith.” Give your anxieties to God in this moment, and trust in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He lives inside of you and has overcome the world.
Because there’s more to say on this, please look for the next plan called: Growing in Our Faith through Anxiety
