Setting Your Mind
Our thoughts are a spiritual battlefield. Our thoughts will direct our feelings and our feelings will direct our behavior. Every move we make, every word we speak begins as a thought. This is what motivated David to write in Psalms 19:14, “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight…” David understood that it all begins with our thoughts.
Today’s scripture teaches us a powerful truth about how to take control of our thoughts. According to Romans 8:5, we need to set our minds on what the Spirit desires. We are not to be passive bystanders when it comes to our thinking. We need to have a set mind! We are to set our mind on the things of God.
This is Christian meditation. Eastern mediation is an attempt to empty one’s mind. The goal of Christian meditation is to fill one’s mind with thoughts of Christ. Jesus is our True North. When we set our minds on him, our motivations, attitudes, words, and actions will all begin to reflect God’s restorative power working in our hearts.
PRAYER
For your prayer time today, spend some time meditating on Christ. You may want to use scripture as a starting point. Focus on Jesus. Ask him to fill your heart and mind and ask him to help you set your thoughts on him throughout the day today.
