Christ Be All Around Me

There are moments in life where every word, thought, action and sight are perceived through a filter of great joy or great sorrow.

Imagine your first encounter with loss:


-Food became tasteless

-Your hands and feet dragged as if they had been filled with lead

-Color drained from the scenery

-Other people’s laughter became pinpricks to your fragile heart

Now imagine the first time you fell in love:


-Internal cinematic music accompanied every waking moment

-Walking became a light, float-y sort of movement

-The horizon and people’s faces sparkled

-Laughter became an un-ending spring flowing from your chest

Now imagine today and the lens that your eyes, ears, heart and mind perceive it through.

Who is this one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist?

What does it mean to live or exist “through” Christ?

-We must ask HIM to become the lens through which we view our daily lives.

-We must rely on HIM to be the filter through which we hear criticism from our boss or heartache from our friends or longing from our children.

-We must reach for HIM as the cloak we wear, shielding ourselves from doubt or pessimism or fear or anxiety or wounding.

-We must receive HIM as the fuel that steadies our hands as we serve, strengthens our legs as we run, sharpens our minds as we speak, and satisfies our hearts till all things are made right.

These are daily, moment-by-moment tasks that are responded to by a daily, moment-by-moment Redeemer. Grab a hold of these moments, your life, your existence and find yourself praying, “Christ be all around me!”
