A Minute For Mommy

DAY 5 OF 31

Been on a Date Lately?

Can you remember the last time you spent quality time with your husband, without your children? I don't mean watching the latest DVR recording, or folding laundry together, or cleaning out the garage on a Saturday. I mean genuine, quality time where the two of you just focus on each other and talk together without being pulled in several different directions.

You grab a cup of coffee with your girlfriends, attend a weekly Bible study, participate in a playgroup, and go to church with your family - all of which are great - but are you spending one-on-one time with the man God gave you to love, honor, and cherish for "as long as you both shall live"?

Moms and dads have hectic schedules. Finding time for just each other is a challenge, but it is a challenge worth overcoming. Our children look to us for guidance and direction. Showing our children that Mom and Dad love each other so much they want to be with just each other from time to time will have a tremendous impact on them. Although they may give you a hard time at first, over time, they will understand it is important for our children to understand Mommy and Daddy need this time together to deepen their relationship and strengthen their marriage. Don't you remember how much fun you had with your babysitters?

I am so thankful God has blessed me with a husband to share my life with. I never want to take him for granted. Just as I want to get to know my girlfriends better, I must show Richard, and my boys, how much more I want to get to know him. I don't want to miss out on the opportunity to grow closer to him as my husband and my friend.

This week I want to encourage you to make a date with your spouse. Go to a drive-in movie, take a walk in the park, or go share an ice cream cone. What you do doesn't matter, but it does matter that you make time to do something. I hope the next time you are asked, "Have you been on a date lately?" you will be able to answer with joy and excitement, "Yes!" You will be blessed and your husband and your children will be blessed too.
