A Minute For Mommy

DAY 16 OF 31

Have You Seen My Hurt, Dada?

My boys love to show off their "hurts." Whether it is to the cashier at Walmart, their friends at playgroup, or their grandparents, they love to point out the scrape on their leg or the scratch on their face.

My boys will go back and forth with my husband, Richard, saying, "Have you seen my hurt, Dada?" says Clay.

"Have you seen my hurt?" follows Caleb. It is not uncommon for my boys to talk days, weeks, and sometimes months later about a hurt I can no longer see. I am amazed they can hang on to their injuries for such a long time.

I am a lot like my children in this area. How many hurts do I hold onto long after an incident occurred? Don't I still bring up past hurt feelings with my husband? Don't I still feel embarrassed about the times my children acted up at Chick-Fil-A? What about my dear friend or family member who betrayed me? Am I not still upset and angry? Unfortunately, the answer to most of these questions is yes. Can you relate? Are their "hurts" in your life you still talk or think about? What pain are you holding on to?

We, as moms, have the wonderful blessing of providing comfort, hugs, and Spiderman band-aids when our children have a hurt. Hopefully, we also take time to help them let go of the pain and move past the difficult experience. We do not want them to remain in suffering, whether physical or mental. We want our children to enjoy life and live it to the fullest.

God wants this for you too. He gives us comfort, support, and love, and through his Word teaches us how to move past our pain on to true healing. He does not want you to be held captive to past pain. I am reminded there is nothing God cannot conquer.

Spend time in prayer today. Take any hurts you have been holding on to straight to our Lord and Savior. I pray as you seek his help that you will experience joy, peace, and healing like you have never known before.
