DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3: Leading Others to the Source

Scripture Focus:Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:33, NLT)

Jesus’ Perspective on Priorities

Matthew 6:19-34 is one of my favorite Scripture passages because Jesus shares many impactful messages. He starts by shifting our focus from worldly concerns to eternal priorities. He challenges us to examine what we treasure in life because what we value reveals where our hearts truly lie. Then, Jesus describes how our eye provides light to our entire body…if it’s healthy. A healthy vision and perspective of the world allows us to see others’ needs and where God wants us to serve. We recognize the people who are “pressed” around us (Day 1), and we allow our higher purpose (Day 2) to illuminate opportunities to impact their lives. Conversely, an unhealthy eye causes us to pursue or value fame and fortune from the expanded reach and influence we gain from consistent service to others.

That’s why Jesus drops a hard truth: Attempting to satiate our fleshly desires and accomplish our God-given purpose is fruitless. One lifestyle will capitulate to the other. Jesus concluded that we have no reason to worry about or pursue material things. Why? Our heavenly Father already knows our needs, and He will supply all of our needs when we “seek first” or prioritize His Kingdom and righteousness.

Finding the Source in Everyday Life

This principle came full circle for me during a reflective moment while deployed to the Mediterranean Sea. One of my friends, Aha Gazelle, posted a video on social media encouraging viewers to pause, observe, and appreciate their current surroundings. His message resonated deeply.

After watching, I took a moment to look around. I noticed the incredible beauty of God’s creation: the vastness of the oceans, the majesty of snowcapped mountains, the freshness of the air, and the joy in the smiles of the people I encountered. These moments reminded me of God’s intricate design and active presence. When we draw closer to God, we see His fingerprints everywhere. We develop the ability to look beyond surface-level needs and recognize what truly matters in someone’s life. Seeking the Source—our Creator—equips us to serve others in ways that heal, restore, and uplift.

How Seeking God Leads Others

We naturally lead others toward God when we center our lives on Him. To know Him is to understand how we fit in the world around us. Understanding our world in context allows us to gain wisdom to meet deeper needs. Whether it’s offering a kind word, providing a listening ear, or extending a helping hand, our actions reflect His love. Knowing the need is one thing, but the goal is to be wise enough and advantageously positioned to meet the need. When we prioritize God’s Kingdom, our lives radiate His light, drawing others to the ultimate Source of hope and strength.

Closing Thought

Jesus reminds us not to worry about tomorrow but to focus on what God is doing today. When we seek Him first, we become equipped to meet our needs and we gain the capacity to lead others to the Source of true peace and provision.

Take time to reflect on where God is working in your life and the lives of those around you. Trust His promise that He will supply every need when we seek Him above all else. Let’s lead others to what they need by pointing them to the Source!

Reflection Questions

  • How much time (daily) do you set aside to appreciate God’s presence in your life?
  • What steps can you take to “seek first” God’s Kingdom, even in the busyness of life?
  • How can your closeness to God help you lead others to Him?

Day 3 Key Takeaways

  1. Observing God’s presence in the world helps you understand how to meet others’ needs beyond the “surface level.”
  2. Your closeness to God and focus on purpose instead of fame and fortune equips you to guide others toward the ultimate Source of hope and life.
  3. Seeking God transforms how you serve, helping you touch hearts and change lives.
