Work on the Temple
The entire book of Haggai is devoted to urging the Israelites to rebuild the Temple, the dwelling place of God. Over the years of captivity, it had fallen into a pile of rubble. You see, they rebuilt the crumbled walls of Jerusalem but got distracted by their own desires for houses, lands, and crops before they could finish the temple.
We can identify with that, can’t we? Daily we are pulled by this world to focus on the things we can acquire, the status, the power, the things, the positions we can achieve, and consequently lose sight of the spiritual priorities.
While the Israelites were encouraged to leave their distractions and focus on building the physical temple where God would dwell, we are encouraged to rebuild a temple as well. God no longer dwells in a physical temple but his Spirit dwells in each of us. The Temple we are to rebuild is the temple of our hearts, yielded to the work of God in and through us.
Read I Cor. 6:19-20 and consider where God dwells today.
What is the greatest distraction to yielding/rebuilding your heart, mind, and body to be the temple of God’s Spirit?
It is a constant battle in this daily life to resist the temptations of this world’s system, but our Scripture in Haggai today reminds us that we can be strong and work for the Lord. We should not fear because the Spirit of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies is with us, empowering us to overcome the world.
We have God’s Spirit with us so Be STRONG, Get to WORK, and Do Not Be Afraid!
Pray: What temple work are you afraid to start for the Lord? Ask for His Strength to begin today.
