Abide, Adore, Ask and Agree: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting With Rock City Church

DAY 4 OF 21

DAY 4

Before the cross, the veil of the temple remained as a barrier between the holy God and His unholy people. Only the priest of God could pass beyond the veil once a year after he was first cleansed of sin. But everything changed with the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Jesus, our great High Priest, had His flesh torn with 39 lashes, a crown of thorns, and a brutal death by crucifixion. It was the tearing of His flesh that led to the veil in the temple ripping in half from top to bottom. As the veil was a constant reminder of our separation from God, the tearing of the veil was God giving us access to Him again. Jesus’ sacrifice made a way for us to abide with God like Adam and Eve did in the Garden of Eden.

Then, following the resurrection, two angels appeared to the women who went to Jesus' tomb on the third day and told them of the good news that Christ had risen. Just as the cherubim guarded the way to the tree of life in Genesis 3 and to the ark of the covenant in Exodus 25-26, it was the cherubim(angels) who shared the message of the way to God being available to mankind again.

Because of Jesus, we now have the unfathomable privilege of approaching the throne of God with confidence!

REFLECTION

1. Read John 14:6 and spend a few moments thanking Jesus for the suffering He endured to open the way to God.

2. Have you ever had difficulty approaching the throne of God with confidence?

3. How does knowing the veil has been torn change how you come to God in prayer?

PRAYER FOCUS

Express gratitude for Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for you.
