Down to Earth: A Christmas Devotional JourneySample
Day 13: The Promise
Reflection
At Christmas, we remember and celebrate the coming of Christ down to Earth. Amidst the mince pies and the carols, the image of Jesus at the forefront of our minds is, understandably, as a newborn in Mary’s arms.
It’s worthy of the hype. To quote Job, our Redeemer lives and stands on the Earth. For the follower of Jesus today, we can take Job’s words as our own. Our Redeemer has stood on the Earth, and we have the Promise of His Return (Revelation 1:7).
Job’s life had been brutally torn to shreds. The worst things he could have imagined had happened, and a whole lot more on top of that. He’s depressed and downcast beyond belief. And as he speaks to his friends, he utters these words: "I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth."
No matter how bad things get for Job, he is holding on to a truth that resounds through the ages: that one day, his Redeemer will stand victorious over all the forces of evil.
Christmas festivity and goodwill don’t always chime with our souls. If this is a difficult Christmas for you at home, at work, or anywhere else, hear these words. Your Redeemer, your Rescuer, will return in Glory to wipe away every tear. Trust this Promise.
Prayer
God of The Rescue, help me trust in the Promise that Jesus, my Redeemer, will once again stand here on this Earth and that He will wipe away every tear.
