CULTIVATE A CHRIST-CENTRED WORLDVIEW
Christ stands at the center of all things. Christ died to restore all things to the Father. He did not just die to ensure your salvation. He longs to govern every area of existence and to have a redemptive effect on the surrounding culture. He paid the price for your personal salvation and cosmic restoration. As we co-labour with Christ we will affect this transformation.
Colossians 1:15-20 (ESV) clarifies His intent –
‘He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things were created through him and for him. And He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent. For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of the cross.’
Christ is not content to be relegated to deal only with matters of religion or spirituality. He desires to be the Lord of all spheres of society. We need more believers who think like Christ, not just more believers in societal leadership.
John 1:1-5 (ESV) puts this truth into perspective –
‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’
There are examples in the Bible like Daniel who transformed a secular society as he lived with a Christ-centred perspective. Notice that Daniel had a biblical worldview even though he showed intelligence in every branch of knowledge. He fully identified with the surrounding culture without compromising his godly values. He fully embraced his faith and internal identity. God showed him tremendous favor and lifted him to prominent positions of influence. Daniel seized every opportunity presented to him to reason with those in influence.
Two questions to ask yourself today –
- To what degree do you believe God wants to restore the entire cosmos to Himself?
- To what degree will you allow God to position you within your culture for the advancement of the kingdom?
Our prayer –
Jesus, we acknowledge that You stand at the center of all things. Transform our minds so that we see as You see. Give us a heart for the culture that surrounds us. We are willing for You to position us in this culture so that Your kingdom may advance.
