Acts 2:42-47 | God's Community

DAY 1 OF 5

Today starts the third of three plans on Acts 2 – the climax of the book of Acts. Everything in the rest of Acts flows from this chapter.

Two weeks ago, we looked at Acts 2:1-13. We can call this the “what.” What happened? God poured his Spirit out, which resulted in his message of salvation being proclaimed to people who have not yet come to know Jesus.

Last week we looked at Acts 2:14-41. We can call this the “why.” Why did this happen? Because Jesus died for our sins, was raised to life, and now sits exalted on the throne of heaven. From there he is bringing about the fullness of his kingdom. He sent his Spirit to guide and empower those who believe in him to witness to others about what he has done for the salvation of the world. Because God wants to save the world.

This week we look at Acts 2:42-47. We can call this the “now what.” Now that Christ is exalted and his Spirit has been poured out, what do we do? Listen to what Peter tells those first hearers who gathered: Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, too. Then live it out as part of God’s new community. Because God’s good news isn’t just for those first disciples. It’s for you, too.

Maybe you haven’t ever turned to Jesus. If not, don’t wait. Confess your sins to him, ask him for forgiveness, and put your hope in him today. If you haven’t been baptized, find a good local church to help you in that process.

Maybe you are a believer in Jesus. The call to repentance is for you too. What we’ll see in the rest of Acts 2 is people living out the salvation they received. Make your life about continually turning to him. Restart every day as a journey of rediscovering life in God’s kingdom.

About this Plan

Acts 2:42-47 | God's Community

Acts is a call to be a part of a new community living out a new way of life through God’s Spirit. This 5-day plan continues a journey through the book of Acts, the Bible’s gripping sequel of Jesus at work in the life of his followers as he expands his kingdom to the ends of the earth. It’s a journey on what it means to be a Christian. It’s a story in which you have a role to play.
