WHO SHALL I FEAR
I remember spending time with God once and this scripture came to mind. As I meditated on it, I got the lyrics for the bridge of this song and I knew it was the Holy Spirit who put it on my heart. I wrote the song and showed it to a few friends, and I was so happy and grateful to God. At first, I thought that this was just a song I wrote for others to be encouraged, but I was wrong!
A couple of weeks later, I started having nightmares and bad dreams, they continued for almost a week and they felt so real. I remember waking up from those dreams full of fear and trembling. I was praying for peace but I felt like nothing was happening. It wasn’t until the last day when I woke up and my heart was beating that I remembered that I had written a song, so I put it on and began to sing. As I began to declare that the Lord is my light and rock of salvation, I genuinely began to feel peace and God’s love began to surround me. I felt protected, I felt safe, and I knew that the Lord was with me and for me.
That was the last time anything like that ever happened to me, and for that, I give thanks to God. But what changed my situation wasn’t a song, it was a declaration of truth. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” The Bible is full of scriptures and declarations that we can use in any situation, but it’s up to us to declare them. It’s up to us to read God’s word, meditate on it, and store it in our hearts. Because when we do this, it means that when we are scared and when we are fearful, we not only recognise that God is the one we need, but we are also declaring in faith what we know is true and choosing to depend on God.
So the next time you’re experiencing fear, let God be the one you turn to. Begin to declare all of His promises and the truth.
Prayer: God I thank you that you haven’t given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. When I am feeling fearful or overwhelmed, God, I pray you would remind me you are my light and salvation, whom shall I fear?! The stronghold of my life, why should I be afraid? Amen.
