Surviving Election Season

DAY 3 OF 7

Day 3 | Should Christians Worry About the Election?

The Bible tells us not to worry, but during election cycles, many of us feel the tension and anxiety rising. If you’re reading this, you may remember previous elections. The uncertainty of elections can cause anxiety, simply because we don’t know what the outcome will be. The best way to overcome fear of the unknown is to focus on what we do know.

So, what do we know? We know who God is. We also know that nothing can separate us from the love of God. The love of God is not like the fuzzy seeds blown off a dandelion, fluttering on the wind and then gone. (Make a wish!) No, God’s love is a rock we can build our lives on. It never ends. It never fails.

When Paul wrote the letter to the church in Rome, he knew what they were facing. They lived in an empire that worshipped the leader, Caesar, as a god. For new believers, to worship God alone and refuse to worship Caesar put them in a precarious position with the government of Rome.

Paul tells them, “If God is for us, who can be against us!” He wasn’t telling them nothing bad would happen. Instead, he was telling them that no matter what happened, it wouldn’t change the love of God, and the sacrifice of Jesus for their sins made them secure, no matter what they faced.

The same is true for every believer. If we trust that our sins are forgiven through the sacrifice of Jesus, then we can trust in the love of God to be the rock we can build our lives on. No matter what happens in our own government, it cannot separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus!

Prayer: Dear God, your love never fails. It is a rock I can build my life on. Help me to trust in you. Let the people around me see this peace in me, and give me the opportunities to tell them how I know I am secure, no matter what happens. Amen.
