Scrap the Shame: Embracing What God Actually Thinks of You

DAY 5 OF 5

Day 5: Share Your Story

Your story matters.

Shame wants to keep you silent and small. But God made you, He loves you, and He redeemed you. Shame isn’t your story any longer, God’s goodness in your life is! You can be bold and tell people the freedom Jesus has brought to you.

In Mark 5, a man who was possessed by demons encounters Jesus. He was tortured and tormented by the demons within, cutting himself on stones, and crying out day and night.

Then he met Jesus, and Jesus miraculously delivered and freed him. The man was not the same. The man wanted to go with Jesus, and you can understand why.

But “Jesus did not let him, but said, ‘Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.’ So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.” (Mark 5:19-20)

Every time we tell our story, there is potential for people to see God’s goodness and His glory. The enemy wants to silence you through shame, but shame has no hold on you. You can share the story of God’s goodness over your life. You can speak truth into other people’s stories, highlighting the goodness of God, and telling them the truth of who Jesus is.

Through the power of God, your wounds have the potential to become a source of great strength. Your shame can turn into a powerful story of healing and freedom. Don’t hide your story. Tell it. Celebrate it. Even your darkest moments can be used to help people see Jesus.

Your testimony — or in biblical terms, your witness — has power. Share your story. Just like it says in Psalm 66:16, tell people what God has done for you.

The feeling is called shame, and it’s not from God. So what do we do with shame? What does God actually think of us? And how can we embrace who we truly are? Join Change Conference in this 5-day devotional where we'll learn to scrap the shame and embrace how God sees us and who He's calling us to be.
