Working for God's Glory

DAY 4 OF 7

Working Hard

Men, have you heard of a post-Covid phenomenon called “Quiet Quitting?”

Investopedia refers to it as “Doing the minimum requirements of one’s job and putting in no more time, effort, or enthusiasm than necessary.”

A recent Gallup survey identified as many as fifty percent of Americans as “quiet quitters.” Quiet quitters continue to fulfill their primary responsibilities. Still, they’re less willing to engage in activities known as “citizenship behaviors”: no more staying late, showing up early, or attending non-mandatory meetings.

Brothers, I get it. When your micromanager boss makes another unreasonable request, it is easy to throw up your hands and promise yourself you are done trying your best.

But let us not forget that the One we call Lord became the lowest of all and died for us like a slave on a cross (Philippians 2:5-11).

If He died for us, we should live for Him. Therefore, all work should be done for the glory of God.

As mentioned in Colossians 3:23-24, “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward and that the Master you serve is Christ.” The key is the last part: the master you serve is ultimately Christ, not your boss. We can’t earn our salvation by working hard for our earthly masters, but we can increase our reward in heaven.

Brothers, I believe our Father has our backs when we do our best. He is working when we are sleeping, changing hearts and minds. I have been praying for a change at my work for several months, and God has been creating opportunities that were not previously available. Keep praying, work hard, and don’t give up.

Prayer: Father, help us trust You while we work hard and do our best. Keep us strong so we don’t get discouraged when work is challenging. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Reflection: Consider areas of your work where you might not be doing your absolute best and how you can improve.
