The Delay Is Strategic

DAY 5 OF 6

Ignite Your Faith

James 1:3 reminds us that “the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” When we encounter delays, whether in our personal lives, careers, or ministries, it is a chance to exercise and grow in our faith. God uses these seasons to shape our character and strengthening our reliance on Him. Just as a gardener prunes a plant to promote growth, God uses delays to cultivate and nurture our faith.

The profound story of Lazarus' resurrection from John 11 illustrates the power of faith amidst delays. In this chapter, we witness Jesus intentionally delaying His arrival to Bethany after receiving news of Lazarus’ illness. This delay caused confusion and grief among Lazarus’ loved ones, including his sisters Mary and Martha. Yet, through this seemingly agonizing delay, Jesus demonstrated His divine authority over life and death, ultimately strengthening the faith.

As we reflect on this story, we are reminded that growing our faith often requires us to confront our doubts and fears. Jesus’ delay in coming to Lazarus was not a sign of neglect but an opportunity for deeper revelation of His glory. In our own lives, God’s strategic delays can serve as ways to strengthen our faith. They prompt us to rely more fully on His promises and to believe in His ability to bring about resurrection in the midst of what seems dead or hopeless.

In times of delay, prayer is a powerful tool for strengthening our faith. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Take this opportunity to pray, laying your concerns and desires before the Lord.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

In moments of delay and uncertainty, help me to anchor my faith in You. Like Martha, may we confess that You are the resurrection and the life, even when circumstances challenge our understanding. Strengthen my belief in Your sovereign timing and purpose. Teach me to trust in Your plan, knowing that Your delays are not inaction but opportunities for deeper revelation and growth in my faith in You.

In Jesus’ name, amen
