Be a Blessing, Reach the World for Christ

DAY 6 OF 7

Be a blessing by praying for others

"Thy kingdom come" is a key phrase in the Lord’s Prayer. Jesus taught His disciples from the very beginning to pray for the coming of His kingdom. Prayer plays a vital role in this. Jesus had a strong prayer life, and the same was true for His disciples.

During our first 10 years in Africa, we saw no fruit. The churches we worked with were divided. There were more girls who became Muslims than Muslims who became Christians. On the advice of my wife, we started to ask our students to pray specifically for Muslims. Every student prayed for one Muslim in his or her neighborhood. We practiced this until the end of our time. Every year, God worked in and through this group of students. God showed that prayer is the power source in missions. Not our efforts, not our strategies, not our finances or time, but God is the One Who makes things possible! He wants to be asked and honored!

At the beginning of this series, we saw that God is the One who seeks out people and wants to be reconciled to them. It was He Who took the initiative to seek out Adam. When we pray for our unbelieving neighbors, when we pray for unreached people or countries without any Christians or missionaries, He will start moving in answer to our prayers.

Almost every famous missionary story begins with prayer. A.B. Simpson said it all: "Prayer is the power source that sets the missionary work in motion".

Let us pray today for the Islamic world, that God will work mightily in the Middle-East, Asia and Africa.
