When You Feel You Are in a Spiritual Desert

DAY 3 OF 8

When You Feel You're in the Desert

God sometimes comes only when you are at the end of yourself. He comes when we understand that we can live without everything we think is indispensable. When God comes, we finally realise He is enough. Even in the wilderness, He saturates completely.

When he comes, you'll know it's him because there will be a "burning bush." You will not have any doubt. As long as you doubt that it is God who has come, you can know it is not Him.

In the wilderness, all the emotions, all the wonderful feelings, the "experiencing" of God's presence disappear. There, God wants to teach us to live by faith and not according to what we can see and feel.

The first reason for God's wilderness is in Deuteronomy 8:5 – You must know deep in your heart: as a man cultivates discipline in his son, the Lord your God has taught you discipline.

The wilderness is where God schools us for the work that lies ahead of us. As in the case of John the Baptist, God often uses deserts to make His servants strong in the Spirit before He sends them out: And the child grew and became strong in spirit; and he lived in the wilderness until the time of his public appearance to Israel (Luke 1:80).

In the wilderness, God strips us of ourselves and prepares us for the work for which He has chosen us from eternity. God taught Moses forty years in the wilderness.

Where did God give the Israelites manna? In the desert. It is in the wilderness that God will give you manna. After forty years in the desert, God stopped giving them manna. Manna is for the desert. If you look around you, when you are in the desert, you will see the manna.

About this Plan

When You Feel You Are in a Spiritual Desert

Sometimes, we feel lonely and confused and do not know what happened to God. Where is He? Suddenly I do not feel His intense presence. I feel like I am in a desert and do not know what I must do. There is no one to talk to, no one that understands. I cannot hear God's voice. What is going on? We trust that this reading plan will help give some guidance.
