Becoming a Woman of Grace, Faith & Courage: Modern Day Women of the BibleSample
Day 2: Hannah
Hannah was one of her husband Elkanah’s two wives. Her husband's other wife Peninnah bore children, but Hannah was barren. The passage tells us that Peninnah taunted Hannah because of this, but Hannah handled the situation with such grace, never responding to the taunts. Hannah cried out to God for a son and made a promise that if her prayer was answered she’d give her son back to the Lord.
Through her faithfulness, her prayers were answered and she delivered on her end of the deal. Her son Samuel, when old enough, was given back to the Lord.
Do you notice the sequence of events?
Hannah prayed, intoxicated by the spirit. God answered her prayer.
Hannah made a promise to God. Hannah kept her promise to God.
Is there something that you’ve been praying for that God has not yet delivered? Recommit to praying without ceasing, believing that if it is God’s will then the prayer shall be answered.
