Grace in Chaos - Biblical Hope for the Hard Days of Motherhood

DAY 3 OF 5

Jesus gives us a great purpose and mission in our parenting. In the Great Commission, Jesus called His disciples to “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations . . . ” teaching them to observe all that He had commanded (Matthew 28:18–20). Now, all who believe in Jesus are invited into this mission—to tell others about the good news of Jesus and what it means to follow Him.

This is a great and important mission!

That means as moms, we have the great privilege of introducing our children to God! We have the opportunity to teach our children about God’s character and our need for a savior—modeling repentance and saying sorry when we sin. We have the gift of teaching our children about God’s Word, showing them the community of God in the church, and praying for lost friends and neighbors, modeling a heart of evangelism. Just like Timothy’s mom and grandmother led him to the faith (2 Timothy 1:1–5), we have the opportunity to teach our children about Jesus.

This mission can sometimes leave us feeling unequipped and unprepared. But Jesus is with us through every step. He does not leave us alone to fulfill the Great Commission. Instead, He is with us in the trenches of motherhood.

Jesus is with us through difficult days and joyous ones. He is with you when you feel paralyzed with worry—wondering what kind of world your child is growing up in. Jesus is with you when you watch your children make poor choices and you try to gently instruct them but are met only with hardened hearts and greater rebellion. Jesus is with you when the tears just won’t stop—when postpartum or other feelings of depression seem endless, and you wonder if you will ever feel like yourself again. He is with you when you want to start a family worship plan but aren’t sure where to start. He is with you in every season of parenting—from early pregnancy to empty nesting. He is always good and always gracious.

You have a great mission as a mom, and you do not walk alone. Jesus is with you in the trenches of motherhood.

Questions:

  1. What is the goal of your parenting?
  2. When do you feel most discouraged in your parenting? How does the gospel bring you hope?
  3. Do you ever feel alone in your mothering? How can the truth that Jesus is always with you encourage you on these days?
Dan 2Dan 4
