Overcoming the Father Wound: The Path to VictorySample

Overcoming the Father Wound: The Path to Victory

DAY 1 OF 9

DAY 1: Why Overcoming Our Father Wounds Matters So Much

Malachi 4:6 NIV - He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.”

My Dad was a famous figure in the Latin music world decades ago. Millions danced to his music. He won Grammys. He travelled internationally. Besides leading his own band, he recorded with diverse artists, from the Bee Gees to Wes Montgomery and many more. He succeeded well – outside the home. But inside the home was another story. He was a kid from the Bronx who grew up without a father figure. The brokenness of his past carried over into our family.

I grew up with deeply internalized brokenness, which remained unaddressed even after I became a Christian, and later on embarked on the path of serving God in ministry. I made sinful and catastrophic choices along the way that caused great pain for others, and brought on heavy consequences. “Hurt people hurt people”, as the saying goes. In the last 30 years, God’s Amazing Grace and unconditional restorative love has brought healing to my Father Wounds. Joel 2:24-27 is the theme verse of my life. What he has done for me, he can do for you!

We want to encourage you by letting you know that you are not alone. This devotional includes real-life stories from both Scripture, personal experience, and more! You will find some tools in these pages to enable you to see yourself (and even the one who wounded you) through new eyes – the eyes of Grace. Get ready for a transformational Healing Journey!

Some very important questions to ponder as we complete Day One together:

·How do you see God as a Father?

·What kind of legacy do you want to leave?

·What kind of heart-healing do you need to be able to do that?

Prayer:

“Our God – according to Your Word, you are our Father – our Protector, our Provider, our Example, and our Healer. By your Spirit, please help us to see you and receive You in all of those ways. Amen.”

Dan 2
