Why Reading God's Word Is a Big Deal.

DAY 8 OF 8

Your Bible is your weapon to FIGHT your battles. It’s the only offensive weapon that God speaks about in the spiritual armor in Ephesians 6. He says that we are to put on our spiritual armor to fight in the Spirit. He calls our weapon the Spirit of truth. See what he did there? He says that we are to fight through our trials with the truth. We are to use His Word to win our battles in life. Imagine a soldier showing up to battle without a weapon. He doesn’t have a chance at being victorious against the enemy who came prepared. Yes, he might be able to defend himself in some capacity. He might be able to prolong the battle by covering himself with his shield. But ultimately, he won’t defeat his opponent without an offensive weapon. He also wouldn’t be able to help his fellow soldiers against an attack. A good soldier prepares for the fight. He learns how to use his weapon. He studies it. He spends time with it. He practices with it. Using it becomes second nature to him so that when he steps into the battle, he’s confident that it will take him to victory.

In Matthew 4, when Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil – the only thing he responded with, the only thing he fought with was his spiritual sword – the Word of God. Jesus, The Son of God, in the flesh as human, fought his battles with the Scripture. The man who could have thrown the devil into the eternal pit of fire forever right then still chose the Scripture to fight his battles. When things were hard for Jesus on earth – he spoke Scripture. He recited it, prayed with it, found comfort in it, and most importantly, lived it because Jesus knew that it was the truth.

Fight your battles with the Word. Learn who you are in the Word. Gain wisdom and knowledge through the Word. Learn how deeply you are loved by your creator in his Word. So that you are transformed and sanctified by the Word. So that you can be FULL and satisfied, lacking nothing. So that we can be confident in who we are and what God wants for us. So that you can share all of that with others to help them learn and start their journey of salvation and sanctification. Your will, your purpose, your legacy, and your eternity start when you open your Bible.

Dan 7
