Day 5 - PROOF
EJ: On this last day, we wanted to switch it up a little bit. When I (EJ) think about this song, personally, there is so much that I can relate to. My family and I have moved three times over the past eight years as we felt called by God to move from Atlanta to Memphis, from Memphis to Texas, and finally from Texas to Washington. Throughout these transitions, there have been many opportunities to doubt that God was going to work it all out but like He always does, he showed up and showed out. Personally, when I am struggling to trust God begin to give thanks for everything that He has already done in my life. My favorite Psalm is Psalm 34. David states in verse one “I will bless the Lord at ALL times, His praise will ALWAYS be on my lips”. I believe that every Christian should have this on their bathroom mirror. Why? We need to be reminded of what God has already done in our lives and it can move us from a posture of complaining to a posture of praising. As you will see from Aaron’s inspiration for this song, God sees you and He has not forgotten about you or your situation.
AARON: I wrote this song after a car ride back from visiting my parents where they informed me of all that was happening–their relationship and my dad’s faith and mental struggles. I was talking to a friend as I was driving back and sharing all of the details of what was going on and he said “It’s been a good day!”, shocked and lowkey feeling some type of way, I asked him “How so?” he replied, “You gotta look on the other side of things of where God protected your parents, he got you home safely, it’s like so many other things that could’ve went wrong”. After he said this, it made me ask the question to myself, “As a Christian, why do I worry so much when God has proven himself over and over again that he’s working everything out for my good?”. I said to myself “Aaron, you have seen Him show up too many times to count and you know you will be on the other side of this wondering why you questioned him”. Case in point, my parents are back together now, and my Pops rededicated his life back to God and because of these things, our family (while not perfect) is in a better place. Since writing this album, God has restored things that I couldn’t see through this process and now when I look back on it, He truly has been with me every step of the way. Let me encourage you with this truth like EJ: God sees you and knows that you will get to the other side of the situation you are going through. How do I know? Because He’s proven it time and time again!
Reflection:
Listen to the song “PROOF” and reflect on this question:
