DAY 4 OF 5

Our Trustworthy Father

The Bible is a book of promises. It is filled with promises made, promises fulfilled, and those yet to be fulfilled. The entirety of the Old Testament kicks off God’s promises to the world. The whole journey—from Genesis through the other books of Moses, the chronicles of the kings, the writings, and the prophets—all record God’s promise of a Messiah.

The Messiah was God’s answer to generations of genocide, homicide, wrestling, toiling, and fetishes. Believing in God’s promises is not always easy, as some of these Old Testament stories attest, but it always proves to be worth it.

God committed to fulfilling for us the hundreds of promises Jesus spoke in the New Testament. These promises include the one found in John 3:16—that we would receive eternal life— and that our Father will reward us openly (Matt. 6:6, 18). He promised that we would bear much fruit, have abundant life, abide in Abba’s love, be filled with the same full joy that He had, and live as His friend (Luke 8:15; John 10:10; 15).

Over and above these documented promises of Christ and through the spirit of prophecy God continues to speak His personal word of promise to you and me, our families, our cities, and the nations of the world.
