How to Stop Watching PornSample
Look for an Escape
We commit to avoid temptation and do our best to be ready for any temptation we might experience. But temptation can strike in unique and unexpected ways. So what do we do when we find ourselves in a moment of severe temptation, and we’re about to give in? We look for an escape.
Have you ever watched a show or movie where someone is trapped in the pull of a powerful river heading toward a waterfall? Usually, at the last minute, they’re rescued by someone throwing them a rope.
Temptation can be like a raging river. It can feel powerful and irresistible. But God always offers us a rope to rescue us from falling off the cliff.
For you, the rope might look like a moment of clarity before making a poor choice, a visual cue that reminds you to stop, or a timely call or text message from a friend. These divine interruptions are a way God shows how much He loves us.
God gives us free will—the ability to decide for ourselves—so He rarely forces us out of temptation. Instead, we need to be aware of the opportunities God offers us to escape temptation and choose to accept His gift of freedom.
So let’s ask God for greater awareness to see the rescue ropes He’s tossing our way. Then, let’s pray for clarity and self-control to accept His opportunity to avoid sin.
Remember, God won’t allow you to be tempted beyond your capacity to resist. That means that with help from God and others, we can overcome even the strongest temptation.
Pray: Dear God, thank You for always providing a way out. Please help me be aware of the opportunities You offer so I can avoid porn. Thank You for caring for me and leading me toward healing and freedom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Challenge: The next time you feel tempted, pause. Think about the choice you’re about to make, and ask God for help. You can trust Him to provide you with an escape route. Once He does, don’t hesitate. Exit the situation and keep pursuing Jesus.
