Becoming The Father God Wants You To Be

DAY 2 OF 5

The Right Target

Once you’ve adopted the right perspective, identify the target and goal. Those children of yours are weapons, after all, sharp arrows with the potential to affect eternity for the Kingdom of God. Make sure to aim them straight!

Who is the target? The Enemy, Satan. What’s the goal? God’s glory.

God has already won the war against Satan, and through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He won the battle over sin and death in the lives of those who put their faith in Jesus for salvation from the eternal consequences of sin. He did all this without your help.

So, where do you come in? Well, Satan knows he is beaten, but he wants to take as many souls with him as he can. To this end, he does his best to make God look bad in the eyes of people so they won’t put their faith in Jesus, but will instead remain enslaved to sin and separated from God as he is.

Every time that followers of Christ glorify God, or draw attention to God’s perfection, through their obedience by the power of the Holy Spirit, proving God’s goodness, grace, and power to save and transform sinners into saints, they prove Satan wrong and increase the likelihood that others will put their faith in Jesus, too.

Glorify God through your faith and obedience and raise children who follow your example, and you’ll do the Enemy and his plan some serious harm.

  • How does having a clear goal and target in mind simplify parenting?
  • Are you proving the Enemy wrong?
  • Are you the example your children need?
    • If so, Who gets the credit for that?
    • If not, Whose help do you need?

Read Romans 16:20, Ephesians 6:12, and 1 Corinthians 10:31.

About this Plan

Becoming The Father God Wants You To Be

Children are a blessing from the Lord, no matter the circumstances surrounding their birth (Psalm 127:3).  If you are a father, thank God for it and decide right now that you are going to be what God wants you to be in your children’s lives, a visible, tangible illustration of Him, no matter what choices you’ve made to this point.  Being a good father really is not as complicated as you might think!  All you have to do is love your children like your Heavenly Father loves you.
