Day 19: From Mediocrity to Authority:
Because of Jesus, we have been given authority over the enemy. Jesus said to the disciples in Luke 10:19 (NKJV), “Behold, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Christ has given you authority as a believer! Authority is delegated power. In this verse when it says, “serpents and scorpions,” it’s referring to devils and demons— opposition that the enemy would try to bring against you. We don’t have to live our lives as a victim of our circumstances or just think, “whatever happens must be the will of God.” We can take our God-given authority in prayer.
Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV) shares a moment when Jesus spoke on this saying, “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’” You have authority because Christ is in you, with you, and for you. He has given you a commission, a calling and a purpose to be His representatives in the world!
I encourage you to pray God’s will be done and His kingdom to come into your life, family, and nation wherever you are. Take the scriptures in Ephesians 1:17-23 and personalize them.
