Abundance In The Bush - Country Devotions

DAY 5 OF 14

Teamwork

She has a lot of heart for a little horse. Spirit, courage, speed, stamina, soft mouth, turns on a sixpence, sure footed, smart cow pony. You know what you have under you when you are mustering cattle on Rio. She gives whatever I ask and I have learned to be wise about what I ask or she will give past her limits. Only once she got stubborn about where I asked her to go. I pushed her and she went - and got stung by gympie-gympie - a toxic stinging tree. She has forgiven me... and I have forgiven her for bucking me off when the girth on the saddle was pinching her. She is training me, so consequently I am getting smarter. I trust her judgments. We rely on each other. Our goal isn’t easy but it is clear - get the cattle in the yards. We give it our best shot. On foot I would be hard pressed to bring even one cow home. On the other hand, Rio wouldn’t round up any without me. Put us together and we get the job done (admittedly with varying degrees of success!). It’s an amazing experience - having a good horse and knowing you and your horse are a team.

It’s also an amazing experience being part of God’s team, when the goals are clear and everyone works together towards them. The focus isn’t on self or “my needs”. It is on giving our best - giving our best to serve Christ and our best to serve others. That’s when we see God moving and people being challenged and changed. That’s when serving God becomes an exciting ride!

Thank You God for the opportunities to work with others and to perform to the best of my ability for You. Amen.

About this Plan

Abundance In The Bush - Country Devotions

Seek and you will find God’s signature all over the bush. Pull up beside her creeks. Sit under the majestic gums. Fill your nostrils with branding smoke. Run an eye over the cattle. Discover the parable in every horse. Marvel at the working dogs. The bush offers lessons richer than you’ll find in any classroom. May these devotions bring some of the abundance of the bush to you.
