DAY 8 OF 21

Matthew 6:25–34

What if ...? Somehow our minds have a limitless capacity to ask that question, especially during the night when we have hours of uninterrupted time (when we are supposed to be sleeping). We may ask it about our husbands, our children, our finances, our work, our friends, our siblings, our aging parents or just about anyone or anything our insecurities can cause us to worry about. But the fearful cycle of “what ifs” can sometimes paralyze us with indecision or cause us to make careless mistakes. And sometimes fear of failure can keep us from trying new experiences or even using the talents God has given us. But Jesus tells us not to worry—or, in other words, not to play the recording of “what ifs” over and over again in our heads. God is sovereign over our future. We can trust him completely.
