My Calling

DAY 2 OF 4

"Go through the Grind" Though Moses was being awakened about his calling, the consequence of his hasty reaction led him to flee into the desert. Those 40 years in the desert seemed like a meaningless existence for a Prince but it was God’s school of hard knocks to prepare Moses to shoulder the responsibility of leading His people through the desert for the next 40 years. These were silent years but it nevertheless provided Moses the opportunity to focus on his family without the pressures of active political life or the harrowing responsibilities of leading a wavering community through the desert. Despite the strangeness of being in a foreign land, Moses experienced God’s help, which he testified by the way he named his sons. Ex 18: 3 (Moses’ first son was named Gershom, for Moses had said when the boy was born, “I have been a foreigner in a foreign land.” 4 His second son was named Eliezer, for Moses had said, “The God of my ancestors was my helper; he rescued me from the sword of Pharaoh.”) In our haste to get that ‘big break’ we can attempt to make changes, but we can land ourselves in trouble. During those times we may have to simply submit ourselves to circumstances and go through God’s discipline. Despite the consequences of our haste God will be our Eliezer (God is my helper) though we may be a Gershom (stranger in a strange land). God’s discipline (Heb. 12:1-13) makes us malleable to hear and obey His call. We need to cherish, the discipline of the quiet years of monotonous routines. The quiet years, provide a stable environment to nurture our souls and those closest to us. 1 Thess 4:11 … make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands...

About this Plan

My Calling

What does the term ‘calling’ mean? Is it an audible voice? A dream? An ecstatic experience? How can I discern God’s calling for my life? Moses lived a purposeful life after that ‘burning bush’ experience, but does that discount all the previous years? Here are some lessons that can help us understand our calling, based on Moses’ life.
