Leadership: How Jesus LedSample
As we explored over the course of this devotional, growing as a leader is about so much more than copying the actions that Jesus modelled. The "what's" are important, but becoming a Godly leader has less to do with replicating what Jesus did and more to do with seeking and aligning to His heart in the why.
We’ve looked at how Jesus prioritized time alone with His Father. Having time alone with God daily is a beautiful thing, but when it’s motivated only by what you can get out of it rather than pursuing deeper relationship with Him, the action becomes mute. You surely wouldn’t spend time with a true friend out of obligation or with an expectation that they bring you a gift each time. You spend time to hear their heart and to share your life's highs and lows. That is what God desires our time with Him to be like as well.
In a similar way, we also talked about being faithful in the small. A powerful principle, however, stewarding little things diligently with a sole expectation of receiving more, misses the point of the practice in the first place.
My prayer for you is that you will adopt these practices, not as an equation that sums up to equal personal growth, but with an understanding and a conviction for the why that they stem from—the why of increased intimacy, knowledge and alignment to the heart of God. And the fruit of that might just be maturity in your leadership.
Growth in all ways is a journey, continually directed by God’s gracious leading. We’ve never “arrived,” although He smiles on us in the process as we seek to be more like Him. Godly leaders are developed through humble dependency on Him when we recognize our limitations and ask God to fill in the gaps between what we can do and the greater measure that’s needed. And when we come to Him in this way, He will do abundantly more than we could ask, think, or imagine. It is not by our strength, but by His spirit; His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. Take comfort in knowing that His grace is extended to all who call upon Him.
Let us be disciples that posture ourselves eagerly at His feet, captivated and reliant on His leading as we seek to grow in our leadership of others.

About this Plan
There are so many aspects of Jesus’s life, relationships, and character that we can learn from. Over the next six days, we are going to take a closer look at examples in the Bible about how Jesus led and how we can model ourselves after him to become people who lead ourselves and others well.
