More of You- 7 Day Fasting Guide to Empty Ourselves and Be Filled With God's PresenceSample
Day 4: Hungry + Thirsty
Have you ever been desperate for a drink of water, maybe after being in the heat all day or finishing an exhaustive workout? Think about a time when you were so thirsty that your throat basically went dry and your body was parched. Or, how about after one of those long days at school and the first thing you do is rush to the fridge because you are just famished!
We can easily recognize when our stomach grumbles, signaling to us that it's probably time for some physical nutrients, but do we pay attention or notice the signs that indicate we are spiritually depleted, dry and malnourished? Check out this verse written by David:
“Earnestly I seek you, my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1
If we were honest, when was the last time we were ‘thirsty’ like this for the Lord’s presence? I don't mean willing to get up and read the Bible or sing songs at church or even say bedtime prayers…. Those are all wonderful places to start. But I believe if we want to experience the next level of our spiritual growth and be filled with the fullness of His love, wisdom, discernment, anointing, provision, comfort...
It takes cultivating a desperation for the Spirit of the Living God.
If you are like, yeah, that sounds great but I’m not feeling real spiritually ‘thirsty’ right now so where do I start?
- Tend to the soil of your heart. Evaluate if you feel hardened, apathetic or dusty. There have been many ‘dry’ seasons in my life and although it's important to remember that our faith isn't based on the way we feel, it can be a good indicator that something needs to shift.
- Pray for a supernatural desire of the spirit that is louder than the flesh. Fasting helps us empty and practice denying ourselves even of good things so we can become hungry and thirsty for more of Jesus.
