Jesus Style Leadership 1 - Call & Grace

DAY 5 OF 20

Isaiah’s Call to Lead Unworthiness

Leadership Lesson

Jesus-style leaders are deeply aware that God’s call is undeserved, but they still say yes.

Read Isaiah 6:1-8

Comment

Isaiah’s call to prophetic leadership was amazing. We have looked at some miraculous calls. Moses’s call came from a burning bush that never burnt out and Peter’s call was linked with an impossible catch of fish. That’s impressive, but Isaiah’s call was even bigger. It emerged from a vision of powerful angels [Seraphim] singing, the smoke-filled temple shaking, and God himself sitting on a throne with just the bottom of his clothes filling the whole temple. Wow! That’s different. It goes to show that our calls to be Christian leaders will vary. Some calls come with a wonderful new experience of God (like Isaiah’s) and other calls come with the quiet urging of God’s Spirit to step up. But whatever our call experience, it still comes down to God’s question, “Whom shall I send?” and our response, “Here am I. Send me.” Isaiah understandably felt unworthy, but that didn’t stand in the way of God’s call to him. God has dealt with our brokenness through Jesus. We just have to say, “Here am I. Send me.”

Prayer

When I think about your greatness and power and goodness, I am deeply aware of my smallness and weakness and sinfulness. But for some reason, you have chosen me and forgiven me and asked me to influence others for you. I feel both extremely unworthy and incredibly privileged. May I be a Jesus-style leader.

Personal Reflection

I know it’s early in your journey, but what is God calling you to do in the next 12 months? What do you think God may be calling you to do in the future? Will you readily say, “Here am I. Send me.” today?
