How Do You Speak to Me?
From the very beginning, God spoke. Adam and Eve heard His audible voice. Often, we think this is how we should hear God. He does speak in this way, but there are also many other ways that God speaks.
“But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.” 1 Corinthians 2:10-12 (NLT)
Every one of us is born with a spirit, a place that was created for God to fill. God speaks into our spirit through His Holy Spirit. Each of us is different, so it would be only fitting that God’s voice may sound different to you than it would to your friend, your pastor, your mentor, or your children.

Are there other ways that you recognize God speaking to you?
God’s Holy Spirit is with you, and He is the most wonderful counselor in the world. His words will always be marked with peace and love. Anything that is condemning, contradicts God’s written Word, or steals your identity or joy is from the enemy. Psalm 85:8 (NLT) says, “I listen carefully to what God the LORD is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways.”
What brings you peace?
Listening is our lifeline to heaven. As we listen, the Holy Spirit sparks new pathways in our brain and overrides where we have been influenced by negativity. Take a minute to sit down and listen to God’s heart for you. As you do, pray this simple prayer:
God, would you silence my own thoughts and imaginations and awaken my spirit to hear from You? I reject any lies from the enemy, and I receive only words from the true and living Lord Jesus.
“There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’” John 16:12-15 (NLT)
Remember that Jesus’ voice will always be marked with love, never making you feel bad or condemned. It may be a new thing for you to listen to His voice. When you ask Him a question, often the first thing that comes to your mind will be from Him. Go with your gut response. Don’t analyze what you hear. Just write it down. You were created to have an open connection with God.
Throughout the following days, you will be prompted to uncover the layers of your heart so that you can experience healing and love in a deeper way. Sometimes we feel like we have to be in a certain place in our lives in order to be accepted by God, but the truth is that He loves you and wants to encounter you exactly where you are right now.
