7 Days With the Sword and the SpiritSample
Trustworthy and True
It goes without saying: if God is truly God, the all-powerful and all-knowing Lord of the universe, then he doesn’t make mistakes. That means he’s never uttered a foolish word, spoken out of turn, committed an awkward gaffe, or gotten tongue-tied. Every time he speaks, he is intentional and on point. Everything he says is true and without a hint of error. To put it succinctly, God’s words are always perfect.
The Hebrew word translated “flawless” in Proverbs 30:5 refers to precious metals that have been put through the refiner’s fire. Every impurity and imperfection has been burned away. What’s left is clean and uncontaminated, honest and pure. But, of course, the words of God have never been put into the crucible. There were never any imperfections to remove. His words came perfect and flawless from his lips.
Even if the whole world falls apart and every institution and authority crumbles, God’s precious Word will stand. It will not let us down. It will not fail us. Because of that, God is our refuge in the storm, our shield when we’re under attack. His commandments reveal goodness, and his promises light our way home. In the pages of Scripture, we discover our need for a Savior, and if we keep reading, we’ll hear the Savior’s life-giving voice.
Take the Bible. Take every word of it. There are no parts to shuffle off, nothing to filter out. Be wary of those who tell you to pick and choose. Ignore anyone who believes the Bible needs to be tamed, smoothed over, or abridged. Only a fool would choose to toss aside words of life.
Are you discouraged? Be encouraged by God’s unfailing love for you. Are you ashamed? Read about how you can trade in your shame for joy. In need of direction? Hear the Good Shepherd calling you into his fold. Ready to move beyond the darkness? Step into the light of truth. In a world filled with voices vying for your attention and allegiance, don’t settle for anything less than the flawless words of God.
Heavenly Father, your Word is faithful and true. Help me never to take it for granted.
About this Plan
Every Christian is called to live by God’s Word and walk in his Spirit. In the pages of the Bible, God reveals his good heart to us, and through the Holy Spirit, he gives us his very presence so we never have to walk alone. In this seven-day reading plan, John Greco invites you to draw near to the Lord as you encounter the sword and the Spirit.
