God's Faithfulness in Isolation

DAY 3 OF 4

Learning to be Content

For I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. (v. 11)

In the last few years, it has been hard to be content. However, I am learning to be content, helped by prayer and Scripture reading.

In today’s reading, Paul is writing about contentment while imprisoned unfairly. He is encouraging the Philippian believers, as well as us today, to be encouraged when faced with uncertainty. He gives practical advice: study Scripture, thank God for each day, praise God for blessings, remain in one accord (unity), and rejoice in the Lord. Churches have continued these traditions today—even online! Paul expresses his gratitude to the church at Philippi (v. 14). He stresses the awesomeness of God meeting needs (vv. 19-20).

I get together with Christian friends, former co-workers and acquaintances on Zoom in various Book Fellowships and Bible studies. The opening prayer usually welcomes God into the session. We often listen to a Christian song of encouragement related to the material we read. At some Fellowships we watch a video of a sermon or interview of a Christian minister. The closing prayer usually thanks God for encouraging words and God’s love and care. In the present age the Zoom meeting is one of the more relaxing and convenient places to meet.

In the midst of the pandemic, I learned to be content fellowshipping in this new way. And as I read this Scripture, I have faith that I can continue to practice contentment in every new situation.

As you pray, ask the Lord to bless you, your family, and your friends as you learn to be content.
