Firm Foundation: Certain Hope in Uncertain TimesSample
Day 5: Call On The Name
Romans 10 is one of my favorite passages of scripture. Verse 9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved…”
What a promise! That’s the good news of the Gospel. And there are a few simple steps on the path to making those words a personal reality. They’re reflected in my song, “Call On The Name.” It begins like this…
I’ve heard about Your saving grace
The gift of Your salvation
Is it true that anyone who calls upon Your name is welcomed in Your kingdom?
I’ve seen You love a wretch like me
I’ve seen You heal the hurting
To the restless anxious wandering heart it’s such good news
My soul can stop its searching.
The chorus then proclaims these words in response…
I call on the name of Jesus
I want to be saved
I never want to be the same
This life I’m living
It’s all Yours
It’s all Yours
I trust in the name of Jesus
I want to be saved
I never want to be the same
This life I’m leading
It’s all Yours
It’s all Yours
Those lyrics are in essence the second step: calling on the name of Jesus! The third step then consists of surrender and commitment, and the second verse of “Call On The Name” provides language for this…
Teach my soul to trust in You
Teach my ears to listen
With all my heart I want to sing the praise You’re due
And follow in Your wisdom
The bridge of the song carries on this posture of our hearts, making clear the confession of salvation…
I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord!
I believe He rose up from the grave!
I believe that God so loved the world
That He sent His only Son to save!
Have you called on Jesus’ name? Have you experienced the joy of salvation?
When I sing this song or think of it, I can’t help but see a picture of “a field white for harvest”, as described in John 4:35. A season when wave after wave of souls will call and confess JESUS!
If you’ve already made that decision, it’s my hope you’re reminded of the joy that is yours in Him today. But if you want to know Jesus, let me encourage you to invite Him into your heart. Confess with your mouth that He died and rose again for your salvation. Then, go and find a community of other believers, get connected with a Church, and start reading more of God’s Word.
Welcome to the family. Heaven rejoices and welcomes you home!
