You Are My One Thing

DAY 6 OF 7

Glory, Honor, Power

Creation points to the King

The heavens can't help but sing to You

To You, our God

The second verse of “Glory, Honor, Power” shows creation pointing to the King. This simple lyric is profound. Grafted into the very DNA of the universe is the longing to point back to its Creator. Epic sunrises and sunsets, just a glimpse of creation’s beauty, communicate the grandeur of God. Vast mountain ranges provide a tranquil yet mesmerizing picture of how vast creation is. Forests with wildlife teeming in every space point to the Lord’s intentionality in forming our beautiful world. We marvel at God’s grand design.

If the Lord so carefully planned every detail of creation, how intimately is He involved in our lives? How much do our responses to His grace move Him?

In Colossians 1:15–20, Paul meditates on Jesus Christ’s nature. In Christ, all things were created (v. 16). He is the glue holding all things together (v. 17). The Lord desired intimacy with His creation, even to the extent of sacrificing Himself for us (v. 20). Hebrews 1:1–4, similarly, points to Jesus’ glory, sustaining power, and redemptive purpose. Christ, who is fully God, became fully human to be the atoning sacrifice for the world’s sins.

Jesus is our Creator and Savior. He chose to be intimately involved in our world. Our purpose is to know and glorify Him.

Pause and reflect: If creation points to the King, how does my heart find Jesus daily? How does Jesus receive my affection? Lord, where have I become so accustomed to my routine that I miss the awe and wonder of your nearness? Teach me how to slow down and live at the rhythms of your grace.

Wherever you find yourself in your busy morning, afternoon, or evening, pause. Take a deep breath. In the rhythm of your breathing, find Him. Listen to His heart. Find Him in the quiet of a normal Tuesday morning. Find Him in the mundane afternoon of meetings. Find Him in the hum of everyday life and the buzz of going to and fro. Our journey of finding Him isn’t a fast-paced sprint to earn earthly rewards, but a strategic, long-term pursuit that brings us the prize: God Himself. Rest in being His. You belong to Him. This is the place where we give Him glory, from our inmost being.
