DAY 9 OF 15

Hail & Locusts

Reflect

After so many times, you would think that when Pharaoh told Moses his people could go if he’d pray for the plague to be taken away, Moses would not believe him anymore. But every time, Pharaoh went back on his word, and this time hail rained down. Literally. This hail storm was unlike anything anyone had ever seen. This plague was a direct hit on the Egyptian goddess Nut, goddess of the sky. And if that wasn’t clear enough, hail did not fall in Goshen, where the Israelites lived. God was making a point and Pharaoh was going to hear it whether he wanted to or not.

Then came the locusts. If you thought gnats and flies were bad, you would not have been prepared for the swarm of locusts that covered basically every inch of Egypt. The locusts destroyed everything that was left—every piece of food, houses, even the trees. God reminded Pharaoh once again that He was powerful enough to wipe out all of Egypt in one swoop, but He gave Pharaoh chance after chance to right his wrongs and let the people go. Stubbornness and pride prevented Pharaoh from letting his slaves free, and so the plagues continued.
