DAY 17 OF 30

Blessed to be a Blessing

We don't know much about Joseph's life after this part of the story, but we know that God intended to bless and prosper him. In contrast, Jacob called Joseph's younger brother, Benjamin, a "hungry wolf" devouring prey. As it turns out, Benjamin's tribe (his family and descendants) would continually be at odds with the other brothers and their families, battling and even waging war against them.

The way Jacob blessed his children looks a lot like what God has done for you through Jesus. This is the core message of the Gospel: God desires to bless you so you can be a blessing. God started with Abraham and continues blessing the nations through you and me. God's gifts are always aimed at enriching you so you can be a refreshment to those around you for his glory and honor. Jesus came and gave you the gift of the Holy Spirit for this purpose: to free and empower you to be a blessing.

Everything you need for life and godliness is yours in Jesus, and this is a gift from your heavenly Father. God's blessing is received in faith when you believe he is who he says he is and will accomplish his desires for you. Active faith means trusting God and allowing your actions to spring from that trust.

Question: Do you believe that God desires to bless you? Do you realize he does nothing from obligation but acts because he wants to and always aims at your benefit?

Prayer: If you struggle to believe that God is this good, pray and ask him to prove his character to you. Don't worry; working on your behalf is always his pleasure.
