TheLionWithin.Us: How to Lead Your Children

DAY 6 OF 7

Discipline

Dads often go too far on one side of the spectrum or the other when it comes to discipline.

We need to recognize that Proverbs 13:24 is the best approach to disciplining children. Finding the right balance is key and knowing how much punishment fits the given crime is important.

In today’s world, too many dads have blurred the lines between being their kids’ friends and being their dads. Understand this - if you are raising minors, it is your responsibility to be their dad–period! The relationship will transition to friendship over time (once they’re older), but during their formative years, your children need you to be their father, not another buddy.

Once you are clear on that position, it is equally important to learn the different levels of discipline and what is appropriate for your children. Set these guidelines with your wife so that you will both be in alignment when situations arise. The fact that you are willing to take the responsibility of being a dad first is a victory in today’s culture! Stand firm in the fact that you are making the best possible decision for your child by choosing to set boundaries and enforce rules.

Question to Consider

  1. How does your parenting style reflect your position as the leader of your family?
  2. What are some ways of discipline that work well in your home?
  3. What actions will you commit to today to be the leader God intends you to be?

About this Plan

TheLionWithin.Us: How to Lead Your Children

Little eyes are always watching you. How we act is much more important than the words we say. That should be at the forefront of how we think. If you do not step up and lead your children, the world will. Satan wants to pull your kids down. The most important thing you can do is spend time with your kids and show them how to live a Godly life.
