Seeing yourself as God sees you.

Over the years, sexual sin had impacted the way I saw myself, the way I saw God, the way I thought God saw me, and the way I saw men.

I had come to believe some really terrible things about myself. During the healing process, when God was building me back up again, I wrote down these thoughts and I looked for truth pertaining to those things in the Bible. It was painful, and almost impossible to write something contrary to how I felt. But incredibly, little by little the lies lost their power and I now believe the truth.

Journal Entry: “Will I choose to continue believing the lies of satan - that I have little value and worth - or will I choose to believe truth – what God says. Even if I don’t feel it, it’s true.”

When I was needing to learn the truth that God loved me, I looked at pictures of myself as a very young girl. I knew without a doubt that He loved me then, before any mistakes. Then I realized that even after years of life and many mistakes, God loves me the same way He loves His Son (John 17:23)! Now, even when I see pictures from when I was at my worst, I have deep compassion for that young woman, similar to how I imagine God feels about her.

Talk with Jesus

As you read the story of the prodigal son aloud, try replacing ‘son’ with your own name. What does the Father’s response throughout the story teach you about Him? How do you want to respond to Him?

• Jesus, show me God the Father’s heart as I read the story of the prodigal son. How are You leading me to respond?
• Jesus, as I write down the thoughts I have about myself, show me how You see me. Show me what the truth is.

Prayer: God, You delighted when You formed me in my mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13-17). Every morning You have new expressions of love for me (Psalm 143:8). Help me see myself the way You see me. I agree with what You say and I break agreement with each and every lie about my worth and value, in the Name of Jesus. (As you feel led, pray through each truth to replace the lies that He shows you.)
