Walking in God's Purpose

DAY 4 OF 6

Preparation Begets Manifestation

As a father, I don’t allow my two-year-old daughter to handle things like knives or hundred-dollar notes, because she isn’t ready to do so. I want to keep her safe, so I’d rather let her play with toys. As our Father, God protects us from things we just aren’t ready to handle. We might plead with God for something valuable we know He can provide, but He may withhold it until we’re fully prepared to receive His blessings. We may be after the miracle, but God is after our preparation.

This principle of preparation is evident in David’s life. He was able to defeat Goliath – the colossal, unrivalled warrior – because he’d been practising his skills on lions and bears while watching his father’s sheep (and while no one was watching him) (1 Samuel 17:34–37).

We all want to display our gifting and purpose as soon as possible, but it pays to be prepared. Mostly, preparation happens in a secret place where no one sees you or your successes. When no one else sees, God does. He’s training your hands for war. Don’t be disappointed when no one appreciates you for the great works you’re doing. Don’t be in a hurry to be seen by people when God isn’t done with His preparation for your life. Don’t disregard the little responsibilities that could open significant doors. Those small assignments are the preparation that will culminate in your purpose manifested for the world to see.

The Lord had prepared David as a shepherd boy taking care of his father’s sheep. Because of that, God counted him worthy to take care of the sheep of Israel. He’d been faithful in small things. He was ready to be faithful in big things (Luke 16:10).

So, get busy in the secret place. Don’t pursue recognition, fame, or money. Pursue value and purpose. Don’t serve God because of what you want to take from Him, serve Him because you want to give your all to Him. God who sees what you are doing in secret will reward you.

About this Plan

Walking in God's Purpose

Your purpose is the assignment God has designed you to accomplish – the problem on Earth you were sent to solve. But perhaps you’ve no idea how to begin walking out that purpose. Exploring the lives of Jeremiah and David in this six-day plan, Damilola Mike-Bamiloye assures you that you’re not too young to discover your purpose or start serving God with whatever tools you have in your hands.
