Understanding Our Authority In Christ

DAY 2 OF 5

Jesus’s Victory is OUR Victory!

1 John 3:8 says that the purpose of Jesus coming to earth was so that He might destroy the works of the devil! The cross is where Satan was defeated. When Jesus died on the cross, it seemed like Satan was victorious over Him. But on the third day, Jesus rose from the grave and, therefore, triumphed over the enemy! In that moment, Satan was stripped of his authority. In fact, before Jesus went back to heaven, He actually said in Matthew 28:18, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Then, Christ chose to give that authority to us, so Christ’s victory over the enemy is our victory when we are His!

When we choose to give our lives to Jesus, we share in His death, we share in His burial, we share in His resurrection, so we ALSO share in His victory! Ephesians 2:6 says, “For He (God) raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.” So Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father – the seat of authority – and the Word says that we are actually seated with Him!

Our battles with the enemy should always be with the consciousness that we have authority over him through Christ because the enemy is a defeated foe – Jesus defeated him for us. And when we are born again, WE receive this authority! We inherit the Name of Jesus that is above EVERY name, and now we can use that Name against the enemy!

Ask the Lord: “Jesus, what does it look like for me to start standing in the authority that You have given to me? How can I begin to practically put to work the authority that You purchased for me?”
