Hope and Encouragement for Special Needs MomsSample
Day Five
Strengthen Your Connection to God
Scriptures: John 15:4-5; Romans 8:38-39; Deuteronomy 31:8
The life of a special needs mom can be overwhelming. Amid our busy lives, we get bogged down and feel too busy to connect with God. We are made for connection. Jesus calls us to abide in Him: to make our home in Him. He reminds us that He is the source of our growth and connection (John 15:4-5). How do we make our home or remain in Christ during our busy lives as special needs moms?
We remember that God is always with us.
Nothing can separate us from His love and presence as we walk this road. He walks with us (Romans 8:38-39). We stay connected by spending time with Him. This may feel like one more thing to put on your busy schedule, but we can still strengthen our relationship in the small moments of our day. We can notice His presence and thank Him for it. We can call out to Him when we feel overwhelmed. When we lay our weary heads down at night, we can thank Him for His great faithfulness. We can send up prayers of connection as we sit by a hospital bed. We abide in Him when we remember that He is with us no matter what. Even during a crisis, pausing to feel His presence is essential.
We trust God with our doubts, grief, and fear.
Even in moments when we feel disconnected, He is with us. God can handle whatever you say to Him. He does not leave you (Deut. 31:8). Being honest with our fears and doubts can help us connect with Him. We make our home in Him when we hand Him our burdens—knowing that apart from Him, we can do nothing. He sits with us in this pain and doubt. We can remember that God sees us. He continually works for our good, often in ways we never know or see.
We pay attention and give thanks.
We abide in His goodness when we slow down and pay attention. Look for His love and grace and the signs of life around you. Look for the hands and feet of Jesus around you, the friends that are there for you, the meals left on the doorstep, the sun on your face and signs of spring, and the prayers whispered in the dark for you. These little sips of grace on your parched throat will give you the strength to walk this journey.
Our God is the existing one; no matter what happens, His endless love endures. He is a God who stays, endures, and persists on behalf of His beloved children. We can trust Him and make our home in Him because of this. My hope for you today is that you will find peace in the hard, not feel guilty for struggling with faith, and will never forget God sees you. I pray that you will know that you are God’s beloved, and He is with you always.
Where can you see his presence today?
