#BeStill (Susanna Bigger)
When I am thirsty, this can be noticed immediately. There are obvious symptoms: dry mouth, thick tongue, dizziness in the head, or even weak knees.
Our soul informs us when it is tired in the same way: imbalance, inner unrest, guilt, fear, hopelessness, sleeplessness, loneliness, bitterness, irritability, insecurity. These are all signs of an inner dryness. Silence is a need for our well-being such as thirst and hunger.
Jesus can meet our needs in the silence: He alleviates our tension; he satisfies our desires; he saturates our needs.
I spend time in silence because this way I remain more balanced. Often after a moment of stillness I realize how tense I actually am. My family would emphasize that after such a time of silence I am more enjoyable! In addition, I have been able to take so many valuable thoughts from my times of silence.
Michelle McKinney Hammond says: “Listening to God helps us to put the long list of duties and things we need to do in the right order.”
Actionstep:
Beat a time-eater with a bargain. Before turning on the TV, radio, or computer, just sit down on the sofa for a moment. Be quiet and open your thoughts to receive God’s thoughts.
